Asking for an Allowance

Does it seem like everyone is getting an allowance at school but you? Before asking mom and dad to start giving you extra money, you might want to read these tips first.

1. Talk to your parents when you’ve got their full attention, like at the dinner table. Then tell them you’re getting bigger and want to learn how to handle money of your own.
    
2. Start doing more chores around the house like the dishes, dusting, vacuuming or cleaning your room without being asked to show them you’re willing to earn your money.
    
3. Act like a big kid if they say no and ask them to think about an allowance in the future.
    
4. Whether they say yes or no, keep doing chores and show them you can save money. Ask to open a savings account at your credit union or bank.
